National Expert Speaks On "The Crisis of Boyhood In America"

The Ophelia Project, in partnership with The School District of The City of Erie, presented “The Crisis of Boyhood In America” featuring Dr. William S. Pollack, a clinical psychologist and the nation’s leading expert on boys’ issues. Pollack spoke at The Ophelia Project’s annual spring luncheon on Thursday, April 6, 2006 at the Bel-Aire Hotel & Conference Center.

Pollack is the director of The Center for Men and Young Men at McLean Hospital in Belmont, Mass. and an assistant clinical professor of psychology in the department of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. An internationally recognized authority on boys and men, Pollack is founder and director of the REAL BOYS educational programs. He has served on the U.S. Presidential initiative, The National Campaign Against Youth Violence, and is a consultant to The United States Secret Service’s Safe Schools Initiative, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Education. “Real Boys: Rescuing Our Sons From the Myths of Boyhood” was on The New York Times’ best seller list and highlighted Pollack’s groundbreaking research on the inner emotional experiences of boys. 

           

Pollack is a globally acclaimed expert in boys’ development and same sex education, and his work has been featured in popular print and broadcast media, including: Time, Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal, U.S. News & World Report, National Public Radio, CNN, the BBC, “20/20,” “Good Morning America,” and the “Oprah Winfrey Show.”
