Team LEAD is a bystander leadership group designed as an extracurricular club. In a middle school setting, each grade level beyond sixth grade would have a Team LEAD club promoting the CASS: Creating a Safe School™ concepts of cooperation, respect and effective conflict resolution.
Who Might Use Team LEAD?
Middle schools are a perfect setting for the Team LEAD concept. The leadership skills promoted will benefit not only the eighth graders, but also the entire school population when students apply those skills to everyday circumstances.
High schools could also benefit from the Team LEAD concept. The open forum format would be enticing to high school kids, and the leadership skills promoted would prepare students for the real world beyond the classroom.
Upper elementary grades could also use this Team LEAD format to promote leadership skills, character education and mentoring of younger students by older students in the elementary settings.
Schools unable to institute a mentor program could benefit greatly from the Team LEAD concept as it gives schools an alternative route to creating noticeable social climate change.
