Each recipient received a standing ovation from an audience that consisted of past honorees, local business people, politicians and guests. Wellman expressed her gratitude to Dr. Pogue, an early supporter of the Ophelia Project’s efforts in Erie, PA, and her staff by saying, “I never felt as if I was doing this alone. So many people are part of this movement and have made the Ophelia Project a success.”

Wellman and the other honorees, Umeme Sababu and the Reverend Charles Mock, were selected for their outstanding commitment to enhancing access to opportunity for all members of the community.
