The Ophelia Project® to host national conference:

Girls2005! Changing the Culture for Girls

The Ophelia Project, a catalyst for communities and schools to create a safe social culture for youth, will host a two-day conference on girls’ issues October 27-28, 2005 at the Grand Hyatt-Tampa Bay in Tampa, FL.  Presented in partnership with the Tampa Area Metro YMCA, Girls2005! Changing the Culture for Girls is the first national conference event for The Ophelia Project. 

Featured Speakers

JoAnn Deak, Ph.D., has spent more than twenty years as an educator and school psychologist and works as a consultant, author and ambassador for girls’ issues.  She is the author of How Girls Thrive and Girls Will Be Girls: Raising Confident and Courageous Daughters.

Lyn Mikel Brown, Ed.D., is the founder of Hardy Girls Healthy Women, a nonprofit that empowers girls in central Maine. Brown is an associate professor of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Colby College.  She co-authored Meeting at the Crossroads: Women’s psychology and girls’ development with Dr. Carol Gilligan.

Nancy L. Snyderman, M.D., is a practicing head and neck surgeon as well as Vice President of Medical Affairs for Johnson & Johnson. She served as a medical correspondent for ABC News from 1987-2002, and was a frequent contributor to "Prime Time Thursday" and "Good Morning America."  She is the author of Girl in the Mirror: Mother’s and Daughters in the Years of Adolescence.
